FINDING NEMO CASUALTIES - AT WILD CARE!
(Puffins, Murres and More Arrive at Wild Care After Nemo.)

Wild Care is bustling with activity in the wake of the Blizzard Nemo. Since the storm broke loose on Friday afternoon, the wildlife emergency rehab center located in Eastham, MA has received dozens of phone calls about ailing birds that are stranded, beached or found wandering in roads and parking lots due to the storm. Since Friday, the Center has received an assortment of species including an injured Peregrine Falcon found in Dennis, three Razorbills, a Northern Gannet, a Dovekie, two Atlantic Puffins, three Red-breasted Mergansers, and a Common Murre. Wild Care is also one of few local animal facilities to have power on Cape Cod. They are housing five State Endangered Northern Red-bellied Cooter turtles for the Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich, currently without power. The Cape Wildlife Center of W. Barnstable has also been without power since Friday and has transferred a Red-throated Loon to Wild Care’s facility this morning for care until they regain electricity and are able to continue operations as normal.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RELEASE AN EAGLE

Eastham, MA – In collaboration with the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and the Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife Service, Wild Care is pleased to announce that “Nauset” the immature Bald Eagle has a clean bill of health, a federal ID band, and is ready to be released. The eagle was rescued on July 29th in Eastham, MA. Concerned citizens had called Wild Care days prior to report the listless bird, which had been spotted by staff sitting amongst vacationers on Nauset beach. Weak but still able to fly, more than one attempt was made by staff to apprehend the eagle on private rooftops with little success, until Wild Care’s Alex Mueller was able to catch the bird in a rainstorm on Coast Guard Beach (to the bewilderment of onlookers).
