Pelican Blown off Course by Sandy Heads Home

(NECN) – One of the casualties of Hurricane Sandy is heading home for the holidays.

The brown pelican was just one of many avian casualties blown off-course by Sandy.

Rescued on McMillan Wharf in Provincetown, Mass. The pelican was exhausted, dehydrated and had a severe respiratory infection.

A wildlife clinic on Cape Cod took the bird under its wing and nursed it back to health.

On Sunday, the pelican will be flown to a rehab center in Florida, where it will be treated until it’s ready to be sent back in the wild.
